Dr. Salamon and Dr. Louis use state of the art technology for this no needle-no stitch procedure.  For most patients, only a local anesthetic is needed which results in a much more rapid recovery.  A cataract must be broken up and this is easily done through a procedure called phacoemulsification.  After the cataract is removed, an intracocular lens implant is placed in the eye.  The tiny incision heals very quickly and vision improves rapidly.  Patients with cataracts often describe their vision as "cloudy".  Symptoms may include dim vision, color distinction, double vision and glare.  Cataract Surgery is performed by our northeast Ohio eye surgeons on an outpatient basis in our surgery center-Cleveland Surgical Suites.

We use the latest technique in performing cataract surgery.  Using only a topical anesthetic to numb the eye, the surgeon creates a small incision and uses high-energy sound waves to break the cataract into microscopic particles, which are then removed from the eye.  To compensate for the removal of the eye's natural lens, an intra-ocular lens (IOL) is implanted into the eye.  After using this special small incision, the eye remains tightly sealed by the natural outward pressure within your eye and no stitches are usually required.
